Start a Family Tradition with Photo Christmas Ornaments

Instead of using ornaments that do not mean anything, but just another décor; why not start a family tradition using photo Christmas ornaments? You can either make the photo ornaments on your own or buy materials where you can attach your photos for decoration. There are a lot of ideas and designs that you could think of for the ornaments.
Ideas for Family Tradition Photo Ornaments
If you like to start a family tradition with the use of photo Christmas ornaments, here are some ideas that you could use for your designs and theme:
Family Addition
Every time a new member in the family is added, focus your photo Christmas ornaments on that person for the current Christmas decoration. Those people could be newborn son, daughter, nieces, nephews, or newly-married couple. Collect photos of those people and use them for the ornaments. During your Christmas get-together, welcome the new members and learn more about them. This way, members of your family get to know them better.
Ancestors and Family History
This idea will bring back the happy days. It is somewhat nostalgic as you are going to include photos of your ancestors and everything about them. Photos of events, houses where they have lived, beautiful places they have visited are great material for your ornaments. Family history is something that each member in your family should be aware of.
Yearly Travels and Vacations
Isn’t it a wonderful and fun time to talk about the travels and vacation the family had that year through the photo Christmas ornaments on your Christmas tree? That will surely be a big hit during your Christmas dinner.
How to Make Home-Made Photo Ornaments
Actually, you could think of different ways to make the photo ornament. The procedure given here is something that the entire family can do together. Even your pre-school kids can help make the ornaments.
Before you start your project, prepare the following materials:
- Cardboards or illustration boards
- Felt (green, red, and white colors)
- Ribbon (green or red)
- Craft Glue
- Scissors
- Photo
Follow the instructions on how to make the ornaments:
1. Trace a circle of about five inches in diameter onto a piece of cardboard or illustration board. Trace similar circle onto a piece of felt paper. Cut out the cardboard and the felt circle. Make sure you have two pieces of felt circles for each ornament.
2. Cut a 12-inch piece of ribbon and tie it into a loop. Put some glue onto one side of the cardboard towards the edge and press the ribbon loop into the glue in order to make a hanger.
3. On both sides, spread glue on over the entire cardboard circle. Then, press the felt circles on each sides of the cardboard.
4. Glue your photo onto a piece of felt that has been cutout with fancy edges. You may now glue your photo onto the center of the cardboard circle. After making several pieces, your home-made photo Christmas ornaments are now ready for your Christmas tree.
